The Buffalo Sabres Alumni Association is pleased to announce the winners of the 2011 Family of Scholarships Program. There were five scholarships selected. Each of these is a four year scholarship with $2,000 given each year to the student.

Winning the WGR Sponsored Scholarship was:

Nicholas Penberthy of Amherst, New York. Nicholas is a graduate of Williamsville North High School.

Each year WGR550 Radio holds public events where the money raised is donated to the Buffalo Sabres Alumni Family of Scholarships Program.  As a result of this partnership and to show our appreciation to WGR550 the Buffalo Sabres Alumni has taken those funds and turned it back into the community via a scholarship in the name of WGR550.

The following scholarships are funded by events participated in by our own Buffalo Sabres Alumni:

Katie Augustine of Elma New York. Katie is a Graduate of Iroquios Central High School

Michael Boss of Lewiston, New York. Michael is a graduate of Lewiston-Porter High School

Shawn Campbell Portville NY. Shawn graduated from Portville Central High School.

Joe Pinter Angola NY.  Joe graduated from Lake Shore Central High School.

Annually the Sabres Alumni have a golf tournament where funds are raised for their Scholarship program. This was our 20th year of holding the successful event.The Alumni Association also has been successful with the 50-50 raffle held at each home Buffalo Sabre and Buffalo Bandit game. Some of the funds from this past seasons raffle have helped to fund two more scholarships in the Alumni Family of Scholarships Program.
