SABRES ALUMNI IN ALBANY
Rob Ray and Larry Playfair lobby to increase 50/50 earnings
Posted: Thursday, May 27th, 2010 — 5:02 PM

Former Sabres, Rob Ray and Larry Playfair went to Albany on May 17th and 18th to try to convince State Law Makers to change the current rules of the 50-50 raffle. Currently the maximum an organization can raise is $100,000. The success the Alumni have had with the raffle at the Sabre home games has required an increase in the limit.

Local Assemblyman Sam Hoyt and Assemblywoman Jane Corwin drafted the changes the Alumni were requesting and are sponsoring the bill in the house. On the Senate side Senator Bill Stakowski is sponsoring the bill.
The two days were filled with meet and greets of many of the Western New York delegation and on the 18th Bobby Nystrom of the New York Islanders joined the group and was welcomed by the entire legislature. Nystrom runs a similar program on Long Island with the Islanders.
The Alumni use the money to help fund the Junior Sabres program, as well as supporting 17 other local charities throughout Western New York.
